Guest of Honour Presentation of Poland at

New Delhi World Book Fair 2014 (15-23 February)

A 25-member strong Polish delegation, co-led by Ms. Kataryzyna Kaceperczyk, Hon’ble Secretary, Public and Economic Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Ms. Monika Smolen, Hon’ble Secretary, Ministry of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland, and consisting of publishers, authors, artists, rights managers and high-level officials, will be visiting New Delhi World Book Fair (15-23 February 2014), as part of the Guest of Honour presentation of Poland at the Fair. The Guest of Honour Presentation of Poland is part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Indo-Polish diplomatic ties.

Besides the high-level officials related to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Culture, the delegation consists of the galaxy of publishers, writers, rights managers, academicians, translators including Ms.Beata Stasińska, Foksal Publishing Group, CEO of W.A.B, Ms. Olga Tokarczuk, writer, bestselling author, Mr. Jacek Dehnel, writer, Ms. Jadwiga Jędryas, CEO of Two Sisters Publishing House , Ms. Ewa Stiasny , CEO of Two Sisters Publishing House, Ms. Magdalena Dębowska, CEO of Polish Rights Agency, Mr. Michał Nogaś, journalist, Polish National Radio, Mrs. Magdalena Heydel, lecturer, Mr. Michał Rusinek, writer, Secretary- General of the Wisława Szymborska Foundation, Mr. Wojciech Jagielski, writer, Ms. Małgorzata Gurowska​, illustrator and graphic artist, Monika Browarczyk, Maria Skakuj Puri, bothe being translators from Polish to Hindi.  Translator of Polish literature into Hindi.


The Polish presentation is a rich mix of interesting programmes for children and adult readers: They include talks and discussions on Polish book market and publishing, Polish literary genres like ‘Reportage’, Polish fiction from Joseph Conrad to Ryszard Kapuściński, feminist travelers, Polish School of Posters, ‘Art and Writing’, comparative dialogues on literary heritage of Polish city Krakow and New Delhi, readings from the works of Nobel Prize winning poets like Wisława Szymborska, Czesław Miłosz by visiting Polish poets. ‘Locomotive’—workshop for children, exhibitions of the best Polish illustrations for children and photographic exhibitions promise to introduce children as well as grown-ups to the artistic genius of Poland. 

Of the nearly 25 events being organized on this occasion at the Polish Pavilion designed at Hall 7 of Pragati Maidan, and other places in the city like Oxford Bookstore, India International Centre, Foreign Correspondents' Club of South Asia, launches of Hindi editions of some major Polish books hold a special place. Hindi edition of Little Chopin translated by eminent poet Mangalesh Dabral and published by National Book Trust, India; Ryszard Kapuściński’s ‘Shah of Shahs’ and Olga Tokarczuk’s ‘Wardrobe’ and Andrzej Stasiuk’s ‘Tales of Galicia’ published by Rajkamal Prakashan hope to give fillip to Indo-Polish literary and publishing exchange, which is the basic objective of this presentation.
